Shri. Ramesh Chennithala

Ramesh Chennithala is a Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly representing the Haripad Assembly Constituency. He previously served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. He was first elected from Haripad in 1982 and 1987, and has continuously represented the constituency since 2011.He was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Kottayam Lok Sabha Constituency in 1989, 1991, and 1996, and from the Mavelikkara Lok Sabha Constituency in 1999. He served as the Minister for Rural Development in the Government of Kerala from 5 June 1986 to 25 March 1987, and later as the Minister for Home from 1 January 2014 to 20 May 2016.

During his political career, he has held several key positions, including State President of the Kerala Students Union (KSU), State President of the Indian Youth Congress, National President of the Indian Youth Congress, National General Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress, and Secretary General of the Youth Committee of the Non-Aligned Movement in 1990. He also served as the President of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).A native of Chennithala, he was born on 25 May 1956 to V. Ramakrishnan Nair and Devaki Amma. He completed his schooling at Chennithala Mahatma School and pursued higher education at NSS College, Changanassery, where he obtained a B.A. in Economics. He also earned the Hindi Visharad qualification and studied LL.B. at the Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram.
