K. Muraleedharan is the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing the Vattiyoorkavu constituency. Born on May 14, 1957, in Thrissur, he is the son of former Chief Minister K. Karunakaran and Kalyanikutty Amma. He holds Bachelor's (BA) and Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degrees.

He began his political career as a Seva Dal activist. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Kozhikode in 1989 and was re-elected in 1991 and 1999. He served as the President of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) from 2001 to 2004. From February 11 to May 14, 2004, he served as the Minister for Electricity in the United Democratic Front (UDF) government.

He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from the Vattiyoorkavu constituency in the 2011 and 2016 Assembly elections. In 2019, he resigned from the Assembly to contest the Lok Sabha election from the Vadakara constituency, where he was elected as a Member of Parliament.
