Anoop Jacob, a member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly representing the Piravam constituency, was born on 16 December 1977 in Kottayam district. TM was a former minister and Kerala Congress (Jacob) leader. He is the son of Jacob and Mrs Annie Jacob. B.A., L.L.B. A graduate, he is a lawyer and a socio-political activist. Mrs Anila Marie Gewerge is his wife. He is fluent in English, Hindi and Malayalam.
Politics and Public Life
Anoop Jacob is entering the public domain through student politics. While studying at Mar Evanios College, Thiruvananthapuram, he worked as the Editor of College Magazine (1996–1997). He then led the organisation as the president of the Kerala Students Congress (Jacob) unit, the district president of Thiruvananthapuram, the general secretary of the state, and the state president. He also held the posts of Kerala Youth Front (Jacob) State General Secretary and President and has been a member of Kerala Congress (Jacob) High Powered Committee since 2004.
He served as the Minister for Food, Public Distribution, Consumer Protection and Registration from April 12, 2012 to May 20, 2016, and has been the Leader of the Kerala Congress (Jacob) Party since 2013 and the Leader of the Parliamentary Party since 2016. He is also the treasurer of the UDF Parliamentary Party and was elected to the 13th Kerala Legislative Assembly through a by-election held in Piravam constituency in 2012 and won re-election to the 14th Kerala Legislative Assembly in 2016 and the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly in 2021.
